1 mln tenge awarded finalists of innovation projects in Astana

The development of the face recognition system took first place in the competition of start-ups.
Three-days competition for best innovation project has completed in the capital city of Kazakhstan. The event was held under the aegis of Astana Innovations Challenge, the official website of Astana Mayor’s office reports with a reference to Astana Innovations JSC.

Astana intellectual potential is considered as an important strategic resource. Its economic efficiency often exceeds turnover earnings.

For that period a score of works was represented. The jury decided the winners as follows:

FaceR designed a cross-platform for face recognition was awarded 1st place and the certificate for 500 thousand tenge.

Qaz Aqua team awarded the second place and the certificate for 300 thousand tenge. They presented a GPS bracelet with functions for visitors to the water areas: SOS button, built-in airbag.

Stop The Thief team awarded the third place and the certificate for 200 thousand tenge. The guys have developed a system for recognizing the faces of criminals on a video camera.

Summarizing the intellectual marathon, chairman of the board of Astana Innovations JSC Olzhas Sartayev emphasized Astana is the city of innovations and the start-up is one more kind of contribution to the development of this direction.

In view of Mr. Sartayev, the state and business should become full partners in solving not only economic but also social issues. Eliminating barriers, activating work with all business structures, supporting a beginning startup is one of our key tasks.

For reference: from the beginning of 2017 JSC "Astana Innovations" held 7 start-up competitions (4 start-up weekends and 3 hackathons). Activities covered more than 2500 people from different regions of the Republic. During the start-up marathon, 70 finalists were determined by the jury. 21 teams made it into final. More than 100 leaders and experts from international organizations from 10 countries of the world were involved in the evaluation of projects. More than 230 people registered on the official website. 11 of the 26 teams reached the final, 3 teams won prizes.
