Government working with investors to localise 29 new projects for medicines and medical devices production
In Kazakhstan, 193 domestic enterprises are engaged in the production of medicines, medical devices and medical equipment. Such data in his report was announced by Deputy Minister of Healthcare Zhandos Burkitbayev during the Government session on the development of the pharmaceutical industry, primeminister.kz reports.

The representative of the department reported that on the instructions of Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov on the development of domestic production, the possibility of additional loading of the top 10 enterprises is considered, taking into account the existing potential of their production capacity.

An important component of the development of the pharmaceutical industry is investment activity. Within the framework of the Investstab, work with foreign investors on localisation in Kazakhstan of 29 new projects for the production of medicines and medical devices is underway at various stages.

At the end of 2023, the volume of the pharmaceutical market was almost 950 billion tenge, of which domestic production was 144.3 billion tenge, including 7.9 billion tenge of exported products.

However, the share of domestic production in this sector decreased from 20% to 14%. And this is happening against the background of the fact that domestic demand for medicines is growing every year.

Olzhas Bektenov reminded about the task of the Head of State to bring the share of domestically produced medicines and medical devices to 50% by 2025. For this purpose a number of investment and tax preferences are provided, there are necessary instruments of state support.

Our manufacturers have an opportunity to launch new or modernise existing production through a guaranteed ten-year state order for pharmaceutical products. The Ministry of Healthcare should intensify cooperation with global pharmaceutical corporations for technology transfer and localisation of new production facilities. Among other things, it is necessary to introduce labelling of medicines and bring registration certificates in line with the requirements of the EAEU from 1 July this year. This raises many questions among market participants. The Ministry of Health needs to ensure the correct interpretation and understanding of this issue, as well as the timely implementation of these reforms," Prime Minister stressed.
