The Minister of Ecology and Water Resources has revised the validity period of saiga hunting permits. The new regulations allow Kazakh citizens to hunt saigas for only three days, Kazinform News Agency conveys.

It is possible that Kazakhstani nationals may be denied a permit if the number of hunters in the area exceeds a certain threshold. The number of hunters permitted in any given area is determined by the internal regulations of the farm in question. These changes will come into force on 5 August 2024.

The rise in saiga numbers has prompted concerns among agrarians, while scientists and environmentalists have advocated for the creation of optimal conditions for the continued existence of these animals, which are considered sacred. In response, the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has published a draft order to regulate saiga numbers.
