Almaty. January 13. Kazakhstan Today - At least 93 members of a major drug trafficking group were detained in Russia's southern Urals republic of Bashkortostan on Wednesday, an official said, RIA Novosti reports.

BNO news agency reports that the criminal group of nearly 100 members is accused of trafficking drugs from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to Russia, Viktor Ivanov, head of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service, said.

RIA Novosti informed, "The group had some 200 active members. The money they received from selling drugs stood at least 1.5 million U.S. dollars per month," Ivanov added.

Bashkortostan lies close to a major drug trafficking route from the world's largest heroin producer, Afghanistan, to Europe via Russia.
