Topical Issues of International Humanitarian Law Discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akan Rakhmetullin received Biljana Milosevic, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for Central Asia, press service of the Kazakh MFA reports.

Milosevic thanked Kazakhstan for its continued support for the ICRC in carrying out its humanitarian mission. She praised Kazakhstan’s efforts to repatriate its citizens from conflict zones, particularly Syria and Iraq.

The Kazakh diplomat underlined the important humanitarian mission of the ICRC and highlighted the role of the Geneva Conventions, the 75th anniversary of which is being celebrated worldwide this year. He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to continue its joint work with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The parties discussed further actions under the Global Initiative to GalvanisePolitical Commitment to International Humanitarian Law, launched by Kazakhstan, Brazil, China, France, Jordan and South Africa in New York in September 2024.

They also exchanged views on current international relations in Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

The ICRC is an independent organization whose primary objective is to provide assistance to the victims of war, violence and humanitarian disasters throughout the world. The organization has been present in Central Asia since 1992, with a regional office in Tashkent and a representation in Astana.
