Sports program of Asian Winter Games 2011 confirmed

Almaty. December 14. Kazakhstan Today - The Coordination Committee of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) confirmed the sports program of Asian Winter Games 2011 at the session taken place in Astana on Friday, December 11, the agency reports citing official mass media.

According to official mass media, the session participants discussed some organizational questions of preparation for Winter Olympic Games 2011 and confirmed the program of 11 kinds of sports: skating, figure skating, ice hockey, bandy hockey, ski racing, biathlon, ski jumping, mountain skiing, freestyle, short-track, and winter sports orientation. 69 complete sets of medals will be awarded in 2010 Winter Games.

"The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the government pay huge attention to Asian Games. Thanks to state participation, we are able to construct all sports objects during the economic crisis. All sports complexes will be finished by July, 2010," the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Temirhan Dosmuhanbetov, noted.

The Minister also reminded that four years ago the General Assembly of Olympic Council of Asia officially granted the right to Kazakhstan to carry out the 7th Asian Winter Games 2011.

"The Organizing Committee of the Asian Games 2011 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, was created for successful carrying out of the games in Astana and Almaty.
